Say What God Says

“My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find them and health to all their body. Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put devious speech far from you. Let your eyes look directly ahead and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. Watch the path of your feet and all your ways will be established. Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil.” – Proverbs 4:20-27, NASB

This week starts our New Year: New You series. Resolution #1: Say What God Says.

I’ve been dealing with a health issue for several years.  In 2013, I learned that God does not want me (us) to suffer… from anything, let alone a physical ailment! I’ve been reading a devotional, Give Me 40 Days of Healing by Freeda Bowers.  In it she shares scriptures that have shown me that God did not mean for sickness or disease to touch His people.  Jesus’ death and resurrection assures us of God’s promise for healing and divine health.

A major component of healing and divine health has been knowing what God says about wholeness, coming into agreement with His promise, and disciplining my mouth to say only what God says about my situation.  Y’all, these principles apply to everything!  For every situation that you may have, God has an answer.  And it’s in His Word.

In order to say what God says, you have to know what His Word says.  That means reading the Bible.  The Word of God is truth and there are no exceptions to the truth.  Give God’s Word back to Him, He will watch over it, and perform it on your behalf.  God’s word cannot fail because it is God (see John 1:1).

A word of caution…I’m not talking about “name it and claim it” prosperity theology here.  Please do not misunderstand.  You must know who God is and be convinced by His Word that it is His will to resolve your situation according to His purpose and plan.  In 40 Days Bowers writes that you will never be able to ask for God to resolve your situation if you don’t know for certain exactly what His resolution would be.  In order to know this for sure, you have to know Him and His will for your life.

Recognize that what you believe will dictate what you speak and what you speak will affect your situation. To know without a doubt what Your Heavenly Father says about your situation is the only evidence needed to activate your faith. So, set your mouth and heart in agreement with God and what He has already said.

The scriptures below tell us who God is and what He promises.  Use them to learn who He is and what He says about you and your situation.
